YWCA Madison

Introducing Hannah Becker

Editor's Note: We're launching a blog series about topics central to YWCA Madison's work to eliminate racism and empower women. We're thrilled to have four talented writers who will be blogging about YWCA 101: introductions to topics on racial justice and women's empowerment. You'll also see stories about YWCA programs and participants. To start, each blogger will tell you a little bit about themselves and why they're volunteering. Here's the introduction from our final blogger. Share with your friends and invite them to follow along.

Blogger Profile: Hannah Becker

IHannah Becker recently moved to the heart of downtown Madison and am loving every minute of it! There is always something new and exciting to try and people to meet. I’m so proud to be living in an area where people are encouraged to be themselves and aren’t afraid to stand up for what they believe in.

I graduated from University of Wisconsin–Oshkosh in 2013 majoring in journalism with a visual emphasis. I’m currently a full-time photographer and staff reporter for a daily newspaper and a quarterly magazine. I love learning something new everyday and having the opportunity to meet interesting people and capture their stories to share with others. In my spare time, you can most likely find me reading in a coffee shop, taking photos of nature, trying new recipes, or at home playing with my bunny Oliver. I love road trips and traveling to new places but always happy to come back to Wisconsin. Since moving to Madison, I’ve written articles for Maximum Ink Music magazine and enjoy Yelping about the many local restaurants Madison has to offer. I’m excited to find more ways to get active in the community and meet new people.

After moving to Madison, I wanted to get involved with YWCA because I fully support the mission of eliminating racism and empowering women and want to be a part of the movement. There was a time when I wish I knew of such an organization like YWCA, so I hope to bring awareness to all women of an organization that has such a powerful mission with people that are passionate about helping others.
