Apply to Volunteer
The first step in becoming a volunteer is to complete a Volunteer Application. This can be done by:
- Filling out the online volunteer application (preferred)
- Picking up an application at 101 E. Mifflin Street.
- Downloading a paper copy of the Volunteer Application and returning it to:

Volunteer Positions
Positions at our Housing Facility (101 East Mifflin Street)
- Children's Program Volunteers - A variety of developmentally appropriate Children's programs are offered to children in our homeless shelter and family housing programs. Volunteers facilitate activities and supervise children ages three and older. There is also a special program for babies and toddlers. Programming occurs nightly and on the weekends.
- Shelter Resident Tutors and Advocates - You can volunteer with adults in the YWCA Family Homeless Shelter by helping shelter residents prepare for their GED test, apply for apartments.
- Third Street Program Cook and Meal Planner - Every Tuesday, the residents of Third Street have dinner together. You can help by planning, shopping, cooking, or cleaning up after a meal.
Positions at our Empowerment Center (3101 Latham Drive)
- Front Desk Support Volunteers assist employment & training program participants as the visit the Empowerment Center, answer phones and help with clerical projects.
- Resume Assistants & Mock interviewers help job-seeking individuals prepare resumes and practice their interviewing skills.
- Tutors & Mentors help adults work on their reading, math, and basic computer skills.
- Suited for Success volunteers work as “Fashion Consultants” helping women choose appropriate clothing and sort, select, and hang donations in our Suited for Success Boutique. Volunteers work in the boutique Wednesday afternoons or Thursdays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- Clothing Sales Volunteers - Volunteers help set up for the sale with the sale every second Friday anytime between 1:00 and 6:00 p.m. and assist with the Second Saturday Sale between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
Positions available at either location
- Translators/Interpreters - Many of the YWCA's program participants speak a language other than English. The most common of these is Spanish. Volunteers help Spanish-speaking children, translate documents and help YWCA Staff interact with their clients.
