Takeyla Benton (she,her)
I am a Diversity Equity and Inclusion Analyst by day and modern Mystic in every way, dedicated to healing from within. I am a mom, a writer and storyteller, intuitive tarot reader/medium, Reiki Practitioner, Guided Meditation Coach, Life Coach and she’s still evolving. I am passionate about helping Black and Brown women find their purpose through the pain and rewrite their stories as they heal and use their own unique keys to transform their lives.
What are some of the things you enjoy most in life?
What keeps you inspired, re-charged, and brings you joy?
Meditation, writing, reading and family time are the big ones lately that recharge me and bring me joy.
When you look back over your whole life – What experiences have shaped you as a woman? and how?
Every experience has shaped me in some way or another. Ones that have the most prominent affects are being a teen mom and single mom, being a Black woman in corporate America and continuing to learn about the real history of Blackness and oppression/racism in America and globally.
What are some of your practices of resilience? Who did you learn this from? and How are these helpful in times of challenge?
Rest is resilience. Joy is resilience. Self-love is resilience. I practice these through meditation, mindfulness and writing and honoring my emotions. All these things self-taught and helpful in times of challenge to adjust your perspective in situations where you feel your powerless.
When you think of your life journey unfolding, who do you see yourself becoming?
I see myself just being ME-authentically and what that looks like is open to every possibility right now.
What is your vision for Madison?
A city that centers Blackness and uplifts communities of color-genuinely to be an example for how other communities can create outcomes rooted in love and liberation
How do you see you can contribute to creating the city you visualize?
Helping amplify stories from marginalized communities especially the women and facilitating healing and growth for women of color and their families.
Please share about your Amplify Madison journey: What did your team work on? How was your experience collaborating with each other? What did you personally learn and how is impacting who you are becoming?
I learned how to be creative and pivot with the pandemic. This time frame also showed me how vital stories and connect truly is community and personal mental health. It was great having an additional connection point with my team. This process has helped me practice deeper empathetic listening and mindfulness with every interaction.
What are you currently offering in the community and how can people connect with you and your work?
I am offering spiritual coaching services like tarot and intuitive reading, Reiki energy healing and meditation coaching (for individual and work groups) and overall coaching for getting started on your personal journey to self-mastery and healing. Of course, I am still offering writing coaching and storytelling workshops too.
