Restorative Justice Summer Workshop Series

August 5, 2019; August 7, 2019; August 8, 2019 – summer 2019 SERIES

YWCA Madison offers three-day professional development training workshops for educators, community members and parents.

Restorative Justice Workshops Descriptions

  • Level 100: Restorative Justice as a Way to Dismantle Institutional Racism
    • The Restorative Justice program is embedded in Racial Equity Justice. Through experiential and practical activities participants will ground the work and the philosophy using a racial justice lens.
  • Level 200: Building Empathy Through Restorative Justice Circle Process
    • Empathy has been used as a determinant for virtuous behavior, which is why there is a broad and ever-growing body of research surrounding this topic. In this experiential workshop, we will experience and practice circle process as a natural empathy and resilience cultivator.
  • Level 300: Restorative Justice In Education Framework (Holistic Restorative Approach For Cultural Shift)
    • In this workshop, we will explore and engage in dialogue around the framework of Restorative Justice in Education (Evans & Vaandering). Within this framework, Restorative Justice is deeply connected to teaching and learning theory, as well as to school climate and culture. We will explore how RJE can be implemented in the institutional structure of a school through its three components: Nurture healthy relationships, create just and equitable learning environments, and repair harm and transform conflict.

All Restorative Justice Workshops sessions will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at YWCA Madison’s Empowerment Center located at 2040 S. Park Street. Purchased individually, each workshop is $170. Attend all three levels and save $150.

Racial Justice Workshop: Fall Series @ YWCA Empowerment Center | Madison | Wisconsin | United States

RACIAL JUSTICE WORKSHOP – SUMMER SERIES

November 26, December 3, and December 10, 2019

YWCA Madison offers this series of workshops as an opportunity to develop a foundational understanding the System of Racial Inequity in the context of the United States, and the impact it has at the interpersonal, institutional, and structural levels.

Through the development of this critical consciousness, we can also begin to build practices that interrupt the racial narrative of white supremacy and support personal and collective liberation grounded in equity.

All sessions will utilize multiple learning strategies, including interactive activities, facilitated discussion, and film screening.

The sessions are designed in a progressive way, and an integral component of the experience is the shared discussion’s participants have with fellow attendees. Although it’s possible to participate in just one or two of the sessions–if it’s possible for you–we recommend that you take all three sessions in succession in order to receive the full benefit of this format.

  • Understanding Othering and Belonging: Level 100—Tuesday, November 26, 2019
  • Deconstructing Racism: Level 200—Tuesday, December 3, 2019
  • The Impact of the System of Racial Inequity: Level 300—Tuesday, December 10, 2019

All sessions will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at YWCA Madison’s Empowerment Center located at 2040 S. Park Street. Purchased individually, each workshop is $100. Attend all three levels and save $50.
