Driver’s License Recovery Program
Sunsetting of Driver’s License Recovery Program
YWCA Madison made the difficult decision to sunset the Driver’s License Recovery Program on December 31, 2025, due to the end of funding. Individuals seeking support with driver’s license reinstatement are encouraged to contact Lift Wisconsin at liftwisconsin.org.
YWCA Madison has operated the Driver’s License Recovery Program since 2007. The program was established after screenings of more than 100 individuals revealed that many low-income participants were unable to access higher-wage employment due to suspended driver’s licenses, often resulting from unpaid tickets.
Over the years, program staff worked closely with Dane County Courts to support individuals in resolving barriers to license reinstatement. Services included helping participants establish payment plans and complete community service to pay off or work off fines, making them eligible to reinstate their driver’s licenses. As YWCA Madison sunsets the Driver’s License Recovery Program, we offer our heartfelt gratitude to program coordinator Aneesha Mitchell for fifteen years of sustained care, dedication, and advocacy in helping remove barriers to stability, opportunity, and mobility across Dane County.
