Everyone needs a place to call home—a safe haven and shelter from the storm, a place to settle and be nurtured. YWCA Madison has designed several services that address this need and help women and their families find their place in the world.

Empower Home

Empower Home provides transitional housing to female survivors of domestic violence, who are homeless or fleeing a domestic violence situation.

Family Housing Stability

Family Housing Stability is a shelter diversion program that serves homeless families who have not yet entered the shelter system.

Family Shelter

YWCA Madison Family Shelter provides housing and case management to families with minor children who are experiencing homelessness.

Housing for Women

YWCA Madison’s downtown location features affordable apartments for single women, providing a safe and supportive permanent home on the Square.

Rapid Rehousing

Rapid Rehousing is a six-month program providing families with rent assistance and supportive case management services.

Steps to Stability

Steps to Stability (S2S) is a tenant-education program for families experiencing housing instability.

Third Street

Third Street, located at the downtown YWCA location, provides affordable apartments, a safe neighborhood, and support services for families.

Children's Program

Children’s Programs provide a safe, nurturing environment for children while providing parents time to secure housing, employment, and take care of other responsibilities. The children’s program is made possible by the help of volunteers from the community.

The goal of the YWCA Madison’s children’s programs is to provide developmentally appropriate social and recreational activities for homeless children sheltered with their families at YWCA or participating in one of our family housing programs.

The impact of the programs is two-fold:

- Assisting homeless families by providing safe, supervised activities for children.
- Allowing parents time to work on finding housing, employment, and economic security.

Programming includes evening activities, holiday parties, special summer events, and field trips
