Yweb Career Academy

The YWeb Career Academy consists of four courses that prepare women and BIPOC for careers in the tech industry through technical education, career preparation, community building, and case management.

Intro to Computer skills (In-person)

June 15 to August 5, 2026

Intro to Computer Skills is an in-person 8-week course that has two core focuses: fostering holistic healing from traumas experienced from incarceration through Restorative Circles and fundamental technical skills. The learning in this course will support students in furthering their education and confidence in a society that is becoming more technological each day.

The program covers technical skills such as computer basics, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and employability skills such as project management, interview practice, and resume writing. Individual wellness is taught and supported through ‘Wellness Wednesdays’, which is an array of personal wellness sessions around breath-work, meditation, yoga, and mindfulness practices. Our Community Wellness is supported by weekly restorative circles.

Students are encouraged to track their journey through Padlet, an application that allows our participants to give staff feedback in real time.

YWeb 1.0 (In-person)

August 17 – November 24, 2026

YWeb 1.0 is a three-month program that covers technical skills such as web design, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, in addition to employability skills such as project management, interview practice, and resume writing. skills that empower PEOPLE to reach their goals.

Technical Skills

Each cohort is composed of 20–25 students. The program includes 400 hours of intensive technical training. Students are expected to complete job-related projects and work outside of class time and to be actively engaged in the learning process.

Employability Skills

Students also receive training in soft skills, including situational judgment in the workplace, active listening, effective communication, and problem-solving. Hard skills, such as technical training, are required to get a job, but people skills will open future doors and assist in sustaining and building relationships. Students work on resumes, interview prep, time management, business etiquette, finance & budgets, business basics, wage negotiation, networking, and LinkedIn.

Internships

Many of our students who complete the program enter a paid internship. If your company takes on interns, that would be a wonderful way for the students to put their new skills and experience to use.

Impacting Communities Beyond Imagination

Over the years, the YWeb Career Academy has grown its reach and impact to a global level, with students improving community situations and empowering people in places we never imagined possible.
